Recommended Checklist When Purchasing a Storage Trailer

Yellow vehicles

Buying a new storage trailer in Mississauga, Brampton, or Vaughn, is essential for many people, but if this is your first time purchasing on your own, it can become confusing.

Not all trailers are alike, and finding one that suits your needs isn't as simple as picking from the first list you see online. It would be best to keep a few factors in mind before potentially ending up with a costly mistake.

We made a brief checklist for you to consult to help you make the right decision when you're buying a storage trailer in Ontario. Keep reading, and be sure to take notes!

USED OR NEW?

The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you want a new storage trailer or a used one.

Both are valid options for trailers. If you have particular needs, a new trailer might be best for you. If cost is a factor and you're willing to use an older model, there's nothing wrong with buying a used trailer. Keep in mind, used trailers, if bought from a reliable company, are also quality purchases. If you're buying a used trailer, there are two extra additional items on your checklist.

#1: Decide Your Budget

Budget is the most important factor for many people. How much can you afford to spend?

When comparing trailer prices, take note of what each trailer offers to understand the value. Does one have better ventilation? Is one larger? Is one able to retain heat?

Compare these things to your needs. It may be worthwhile to spend more on a trailer with all of the features you're looking for at the time.

#2: Measure the Size

The size of the storage trailer matters depending on your needs. What are you going to be using it for?

It can help to measure the items that will go into the trailer before you make your purchase. Compare these measurements to the inside of the trailer as well as to the entrance point. Even if the trailer is large enough on the inside, the entrance might be smaller.

Measure twice, buy once. Otherwise, you may end up in an unfortunate situation.

#3: Check the Outside and Floor Conditions

When buying a used trailer in Brampton or other areas in Southern Ontario, you want to make sure that everything is in good enough condition for your needs. Used trailers may have scuffed or cracked floors that need repair before they can be used. You may also experience rotting wood or rusted metal.

The trailer's outside aesthetic may not be important to you, but check to ensure there are no cracks that can let pests or moisture inside.

#4: Check the Tire Condition

Tires are replaceable, but you're paying a lot for this trailer, and you want it to be usable off the lot. Do the tires seem flat or smooth? Do they need to be replaced, or are you able to use the trailer as-is?
